The characters are not all that well shaped up and the only characters that I liked in the book were Gandalf and Sam. The Dwarves are shattered and broken. Frodo Baggins, Sam, and a small band of companions quest to return the One Ring to the one place where it can be destroyed.

So, what began as a small hobbit living in a hole that found a tiny ring in his journey, turned into a visceral war involving the whole Middle-Earth. Neither Gandalf or Radagast were that ethically unbound.

For whatever reason - perhaps intuition that I didn't need to dig my social hole any deeper - I never read The Lord of the Rings when most people first come upon The Lord of the Rings. And each brings with him the hope of a people. This is a book from a master, one who was at the top of his game. Despite this, I never desired to read the source material.

And yet the evil of the ring shall lead to the breaking of this fellowship and still Frodo must go on, spy phone for alone. In fact the saga is sui generis - a triumph of imagination which springs to life within its own framework and on its own terms. Many things in his books will seem somewhat cliche nowadays, but that's because they have been used so often since he wrote this book - almost all of them were original when this book was written. He may be the most brilliant one of those in the world, an inspiration to generations, but for me, personally, his writing is not to my tastes.

Much has been written about my terrible Lidless Red Eye, blah blah blah. There were parts, that to a Tolkien amateur like me, didn't have a whit of relevance or anything interesting to add to the plot namely, say, the first pages of the book. This book though, the whole story is amazing but the thing that adds to the whole charm, for me, has always been the bond of Sam and Frodo.

As a single lady myself, I also love to put a ring on it. He also shares his opinion that the historical importance sort of causes people to overlook that Tolkien couldn't write worth beans. It was like waiting for the Red Sox to finally win the World Series.
